Indigenous Representation - Catholic Church

Rod Alexis was integral in facilitating a significant connection between the Alexis Nakota Sioux Nation and the Catholic Church. Rod met with Pope Francis on multiple occasions, including during a pivotal trip to Rome where he helped invite the Pope to visit Lac Ste. Anne, a sacred site for the Nakota Sioux, known for its healing waters. The Pope’s eventual visit to Lac Ste. Anne marked a profound moment in Indigenous-Catholic relations. Alexis was also honored to translate the Lord’s Prayer into the Nakota language, a version now commemorated on a plaque in Jerusalem at the Pater Noster church, a site where Christians believe Jesus taught his disciples to pray. This plaque ensures that the Nakota language and prayers are symbolically part of global Christian heritage.
